January 2023
The SM32 team headed up by M Brown noticed that the track work around the back of the mound was troublesome. After investigation they noticed that all the woodwork under the track was rotten. Its been 10 years since this was first laid.

Planning for this was requested in Nov 2022. It was decided to start this just after our last event of the year. On Dec 13th work commenced. First of all the track was lifted out. Using a 1 Tone bag the ballast was taken up and placed in it to keep the site tidy. Dec 20th the track bed was looked at and made level. Using new treated wood, we started to relay the track back into the cutting. We had to work out how to get the track the right height to match out with the existing trackwork. Dec 27th We decided to drill holes in the ditch that holds the ballast so it does not get waterlogged. One of the members then repointed the retaining brick wall around the edge of the layout. Jan 3rd We continued putting the rails down. We had the use of a laser level to make sure the trackwork was level and heading in the right direction. Jan 10th The final pieces of track were installed. The track was complete.

This just took 5 weeks to complete

More maintenance required a day to complete. The SM32 Maintenance saw our teams looking at a brick wall which had come apart. Also the level of a small bridge had over an inch rise in it so they levelled it out.
